School district history
The current Montgomery County High School opened in 1956. Located at Mount Vernon, the school brought together a previously existing Montgomery County High School, located in the Kibbee community, and Mount Vernon-Ailey[1].
Montgomery had had a county high school because of the previous status of Mount Vernon-Ailey. Through the 1947-48 school term, Mount Vernon-Ailey had operated as a semi-private high school under the auspices of Brewton-Parker Junior College[2][3].
Total integration in 1970 brought all Montgomery County Training students to Montgomery County High. Its building, also completed in 1956, was located between Mount Vernon and Ailey[4]. Gradual integration began for the 1967-68 school year[5].
