Game summary

Jarmon Fortson of Carver-Columbus caught the game's first touchdown -- a 10-yarder between three defenders -- as the South overcame five turnovers to knock off the North 28-6 at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus. The South drove the ball 82 yards on 10 plays for the game's only touchdown of the first half. The South ran the ball on eight of the 10 plays. Fortson caught both passes -- his only two receptions of the game -- for 16 yards. Major Herron, son of the South head coach, earned most valuable player honors for the South squad. The Camden County quarterback rushed nine times for 81 yards and a touchdown. He completed the only pass he threw for a 44-yard touchdown to Wilcox County's Alfonzo Dennard in the fourth quarter.

The North had some opportunities to score in the fist half but couldn't take advantage of good field position. The North forced three first-half turnovers, but it didn't translate into any points. The North's best chance to score was when Herron fumbled a snap and Northwest Whitfield's Jimmy Daniels recovered it on the 27-yard line with 10:53 left in the first half. The North failed to pick up a first down and Commerce's Reuben Haynes was sacked on fourth down. The North also forced a turnover on the opening possession when Macon County's Courtney Green recovered a fumble on the South 39.

The South turned the ball over for the fourth time on its first second-half possession. The North returned the favor on its next offensive play as Haynes fumbled and Thomasville's Quintez Hayes returned it 14 yards to the North 10 with 6:44 remaining in the third.

The South took advantage, scoring on its first offensive play. Herron kept the ball and scored a 10-yard touchdown to give the South a 14-0 lead.

The North finally scored after the South committed its fifth turnover. Jaybo Shaw tossed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Gainesville's Gerald Ford on the first play after the fumble, cutting the lead to 14-6 with 4:20 left in the third.

The South added two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including a 66-yard interception return by Ware County's Victor Daniels.

After Ford caught the touchdown, Fortson was inserted as a defensive back to cover him. Fortson made a pair of tackles.
