The North got a miracle touchdown on the last play of the half and it stood up for the win. Down 7-6, the North had the ball on the South 38 with time for one more play. Clarke Central’s Jim Bob Harris heaved a desperation pass down the field. The ball deflected off Laney linebacker Chip Banks (headed to Southern Cal) and into the hands of Newnan’s Tim Clark who ran in the for score after the horn sounded. Harris then hit Cliff Austin for the two-point conversion. Harris, the offensive MVP, completed six of thirteen passes for 116 yards. David Archer picked off three passes to claim defensive MVP honors.
