Background

  • Chadwick was an all-state quarterback for Decatur in 1968. Originally signing to play football at the University of Georgia, he transferred to East Tennessee State where he led the Ohio Valley Conference in passing and total offense in 1973 and was named the OVC offensive player of the year.
  • Chadwick was drafted in the eighth round (186th overall) in the 1974 NFL Draft to the Chicago Bears, although he never played in a regular-season NFL game.

Coaching career

  • Chadwick became an assistant coach at Marist in 1976 under Dean Hargis before becoming head coach in 1985.
  • Chadwick was the high school coach of Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay. McVay was the quarterback and Class AAAA offensive player of the year on the 2003 team.
  • From 1996 to 2010, Marist won 28 straight playoff games on its home field, Hughes-Spalding Stadium. The streak was a state record until passed in 2016 by Buford and Calhoun.

Awards

  • In 1991, Chadwick received the Wayman Creel Coaching Award for outstanding contribution to the coaching profession.
  • In 2004, he received the R.L. "Shorty" Doyal Award for coaching excellence from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.

Personal life

  • Chadwick and his wife Lisa, have two daughters, Kelsey and Kendall. Chadwick’s brothers Walter and Dennis also were all-state players at Decatur and played at the University of Tennessee.
