New page

The South Georgia Football Association (SGFA) existed from 1935 to 1947 and included larger schools from the southern portion of the state.

It was founded on Oct 6, 1935 at the suggestion of Thomasville coach Doc Harper as a new and larger conference than the Southwest Georgia Group and would exclude the smaller schools. Harper additionally served as the SGFA president for its first five years.

The SGFA disbanded following the 1947 season when it gave way to the regional plan adopted by the Georgia High School Association.

From 1938 to 1947 the SGFA champion played the champion of the North Georgia Football Association for the Class B state championship, winning seven times and losing twice.
